The frustrations that I and so many others feel navigating this modern world as women are endless. Sometimes to be a woman means we have to perform, we uphold ourselves to be the most pleasant in situations where we were mistreated. I am constantly paranoid and worried for my own safety going out at night and those feelings have been invalidated on numerous occasions. Women’s pain is hardly ever believed and they are made to feel as if their pain is all in their head. From a young age we are taught to do everything in our power to not tempt men in the way we dress or carry ourselves. The constant exasperation I feel about how society and even cultures, like my own, uphold patriarchy and how men are praised for doing the bare minimum. These photos are how I conceptualized these emotions and experiences, and beyond just anger I also wanted to capture the despair that events have brought on. I hope to make those who are unaware of the issues we have faced all our lives try and empathize with the women in their lives.
